His parents were the then bishop of the diocese of Zealand and professor of theology at Copenhagen University, Peder Jensen Winstrup and his wife, Anna Eisenberg. Managed by: Bishop Peder Winstrup was born in 1605 and died in 1679. He was the Bishop of Lund in Scania when it was under the control of both the Danish empire and the kingdom of Sweden. He was a leading theologian at the time and is credited with having persuaded the king of Sweden to open a new university in Lund. When the famous bishop of Lund, Peder Winstrup, died in 1679 he was laid to rest in a family crypt in Lund Cathedral alongside his wife. Following a restoration of the Cathedral in the late 19th century, Peder Winstrup’s coffin was moved to the crypt, as the family grave was dismantled. From the bishop's first marriage, he had one son who survived to adulthood, also named Peder Pedersen Winstrup.
