Jean-Jacques Rousseau (franska: [ʒɑ̃ˈʒak ʁuˈso]), född 28 juni 1712 i Genève, död 2 juli 1778 i Ermenonville, Oise, var en schweizisk-fransk författare, upplysningsfilosof och autodidakt kompositör. Han fick stor betydelse inom politik, pedagogik och litteratur. Asteroiden 2950 Rousseau är uppkallad efter honom [4 Jean Jacques Rousseau föddes den 28 juni 1712 i Genève i Schweiz som son till Isaac Rousseau (40) och Suzanne Bernard (39). Rousseaus mor dog nio dagar efter hans födelse. Fadern Isaac var urmakare och sägs ha varit karaktärssvag, rastlös och äventyrslysten.
